Douro, Portugal

Founded in 1880 by Adriano Ramos-Pinto this famous house was taken over in 1990 when Champagne Louis Roederer became the majority shareholder.

heir four quintas provide the majority of grapes in order to have maximum control over the quality of the wines and thereby maintaining their philosophy of controlling all stages of production.

The house has carried out extensive research into vine varieties for Port production and their findings have been accepted as the official recommendations by the authorities.

Ramos Pinto also pioneered the study and use of vertical planting - which has since led to mechanisation of the vineyards.

Touriga Nacional (60%), Touriga Franca (30%), Tinta Roriz (10%)

60% Douro Superior (Quinta de Ervamoira), 40% Cima Corgo (Quinta do Bom Retiro)

Wine Making
The grapes are trodden in the traditional way and fermentation lasts 4 to 5 days, producing an excellent extract. Aged for 20 months in oak or chestnut vats. Bottled 2 years after harvest - July 2005
